Habit 1: Rubbing clothes too hard
Conventional wisdom tells one to rub a stain as hard as possible till the stain comes off. However, this can actually make the stain worse and wear away the fabric.
Instead, it is recommends that you rather try to treat the stain immediately with known detergent that works.
Habit 2: As much detergent as possible
Yet again I am guilty of doing this, turns out that excess suds from detergents doesn’t rinse easily and this can lead to bacterial buildup in your clothes.
The solution is to use about half the amount of detergent that you normally use, then increase that it if your clothes are not coming out as clean as you would like. Reduce quantity of detergent used to wash a much clothes as you used to as this will ensure stronger and enduring clothes.
Habit 3: Putting things in the machine wrongly
This is how I put clothes in the machine: water first, detergent next, then clothes last. This seems to be the way a lot of people also do it. Well, we are wrong.
The correct order according to the professionals is: clothes, water, detergent. This may sound meaningless or weird but you need to try it and confirm the result. Unlearn what you used to know or do and let it new ideas in.
Habit 4: Ignoring the labels on your clothes
Look, I’ll be honest, I just dunk clothes in water and detergent and hope for the best. I almost never read the labels. That has to change going forward. It is therefore recommended that items like leather, suede, silk and structured pieces like blazers should be dry cleaned.
Habit 5: Too much bleach
There is this believe that bleach is all that is required for to remove stain. But not all stains can be removed with bleach this include protein related stains such as sweat, blood, etc. The tip is to put stained whites into a big pot of water with a few lemon slices and let it boil for a few minutes.
